Happy New Year’s Eve! I can’t believe that 2020 is just around the corner. Twenty-twenty – Sounds cool, right? I’ve always been one of those people for whom the beginning of a new year feels like a big deal. Yet this year, it’s even bigger.
Today is more than the end of the year. It’s the end of the whole decade.
Just like many others, I started this decade as an insecure and rather shy teenager and literally, everything changed ever since. I feel like everybody keeps saying how fast time passes by, but I guess it’s the truth. Yet when I think about where I was at the beginning of the 2010s, it feels like a lifetime ago and certainly not only ten years.
So much has happened that I cannot even wrap my head around how much is going to happen in the future.
Exciting times lay ahead! In 2020 I will finally graduate from uni, go abroad again for at least three months and officially move out of my parents’ house afterwards. In 2021 or 2022 I’m planning on adopting a little dog and thereby make one of my biggest childhood dreams come true. Apart from that, I cannot wait to see what the next year and decade have to offer!
Just a few days ago my friends and I talked about the fact that most, if not all of us are probably going to get married and start a family within the next decade. We actually made a long term bet about who’s going to marry and have kids first. Considering that we had completely different matters on our minds not too long ago, all of that seems so surreal. In a positive sense, though.
Here’s to the 2010s, a decade full of ups and downs. A decade full of changes and surprises. I’m beyond grateful for everything I experienced these past ten years, the good and the bad, the successes and the failures, the highlights and the hardships.
I wish you a happy new year 2020! And if your New Year’s Eve doesn’t turn out as fun or exciting as you anticipated, remember that this is just the beginning of a new chapter.
Don’t stress too much about this one night of the year.
